Why Design a Student Model Clarinet?

Traditionally the best wooden clarinets in the world have been made in France. There is no point in trying to compete with those manufacturers because they make fantastic clarinets at reasonable prices. However, many people cannot afford to invest in a world class wooden clarinet and need a cheaper alternative. Currently, the entry level clarinet market is flooded with manufacturers who are making cheap plastic clarinets with inferior materials and keywork. The Discovery Clarinet is not made from plastic. It is made from the durable composite material ABS resin which has a nice tonal quality.

Many parents of younger students worry about what they will do with a $1000 plus investment if their child discontinues playing their instrument. We listened to parents concerns, consulted with many teachers, students and beginning adults and came up with a recipe that makes this clarinet very affordable and comfortable to play. For under $600 the Discovery Clarinet is at least as good as other clarinets that have a price tag of up to $1200.
