The why and how of cryogenic music The COLD fire process of cryogenic treatment has been used over a number of years to alter metals and alloys at a molecular level to improve structure, strength and vibration coefficients. The process is based on extensive scientific research and proven efficiency in the reduction and even elimination of the residual stresses caused by manufacture. In alloy metals such as brass, imperfect rows of atoms are stacked densely on top of each other. When the instrument is hammered and bent into shape, the atoms can be pushed apart and whole planes are forced out of alignment, known metallurgically as dislocation. With the advanced and patented "cycling" process used by COLD fire as opposed to standard one step cryogenic processes anchored in the 1960's, the results of treatment are stress free instruments with a regulated and homogenous molecular and crystal structure.

The process itself is very gentle; changes in temperatures can occur as slowly as 1 degree per minute within a sealed and controlled environment.
