Claude Lakey Original and Metal Mouthpieces

Claude Lakey

For over 75 years Claude Lakey and Nick Bogden have excelled in helping saxophone and clarinet musicians “find their voice”. This process is one that continues today with Claude Lakey products.

Claude Lakey Original Mouthpieces

Claude Lakey Original Alto Mouthpiece

Alto Sax Mouthpiece

All six alto mouthpieces are handcrafted differently and have various characteristics. They all have a high baffle but differ in the facing, tip opening and chamber size which allows for noticeable changes from one model to another. Each model plays differently and has differing overtone structures. All mouthpieces are tested using Hemke 2, or 2 ½ strength reeds.

Claude Lakey Original Tenor Mouthpiece

Tenor Sax Mouthpiece

The tenor handcrafted mouthpieces are traditionally bright but many players with a willingness to experiment with different reeds, ligatures and ligature placement have achieved a darker sound. All six mouthpieces are different in the facing, chamber and tip opening. We use either Rico or La Voz 2 or 2 ½ strength reeds to test the tenor mouthpieces. We have been told by many tenor players that “given time to learn how to play these tenor mouthpieces, they can surpass any metal mouthpiece made”.

Claude Lakey Original Soprano Mouthpiece

Soprano Sax Mouthpiece

The soprano mouthpieces have a full rich sound up and down the instrument and are very popular with soprano players that double or solo. They have a round chamber and are hand faced and tested to insure consistency.

Claude Lakey Brass Alto Mouthpiece

Brass Alto Mouthpiece

The brass alto mouthpiece has a medium low baffle with a round chamber and medium facing. Free blowing with a rich full tonal quality in all ranges of the horn makes this mouthpiece popular for lead alto, straight ahead jazz, but also blends nicely in section work. The only difference in these mouthpieces is the tip opening which is reflected in the number.

Claude Lakey Brass Tenor Mouthpiece

Brass Tenor Mouthpiece

The brass tenor mouthpiece has a medium low baffle with a round chamber and a medium facing. This mouthpiece is arguably one of the better mouthpieces made for tenor. Free blowing and a rich full tonal quality in all ranges of the horn makes this mouthpiece popular for straight ahead jazz, big band sections, R & B, or concert work.

Claude Lakey Brass Soprano Mouthpiece

Brass Soprano Mouthpiece

The brass soprano mouthpiece has a low baffle with a round chamber and medium facing. The only variance in these mouthpieces is the tip opening which is reflected by the number. With a rich, full sound without the buzz of other soprano mouthpieces, this is one that all soprano players should try.

Claude Lakey Aluminum Alto Mouthpiece

Aluminum Alto Mouthpiece

The aluminum alto mouthpiece has a medium low baffle with a round chamber and medium facing. Free blowing and a rich full tonal quality in all ranges of the horn make this mouthpiece popular for contemporary work as it really cuts and can’t be shut down. The only difference in these mouthpieces is the tip opening.
